This publication analyses the existing external intervention on the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa, with a view to encouraging appropriate support from external institutions ranging from local and national NGOs and researchers to international agencies. At the same time, the paper attempts to discourage inappropriate support and to underscore the point that ill-advised assistance can easily undermine community initiatives.
